Basic Skills Lesson #1
This lesson deals with proper elevator door manners. When waiting for the elevator DO NOT stand right in front of the doors, and proceed to walk into the elevator the second the doors open! Oh my! Look at that! What were the odds that someone was going to be on the freakin’ elevator, and would need to get off…in the lobby that you’re standing in!!
I work in a rather large building, and we have quite a bit of elevator traffic due to the various consulate offices and trying-desparately-not-to-fold-dot-coms. I am not shitting you when I say that I deal with an “I need to get on this elevator before you get out” person or group at least twice a day! Come on people! It’s a basic concept of flow…let me out, and then there will be room.
In a related sidenote: please don’t get in an elevator if you don’t understand the concept of what it does! Visitors in this building travel in packs and when the elevator opens they all have that look on their faces: “Whoa! Where are we!” It’s as if they thought they were walking into an office door when they got on the elevator — like some twisted hallway that Willy Wonka would have in his candy factory. Well, this isn’t Willy’s world, so get off the elevator!
