hi! it’s been such a long time…*puke*

so…a few months ago my company had a couple of rounds of layoffs. Some of the cuts made sense, and some didn’t — especially the cuts to the development and QA staffs (our only products are websites! hello!).

anyway…as someone predicted *COUmeGH*, we’re swamped, and we’re asking our recently laid-off staff if they could come in as contractors — this is a great gig: laid off with severence, and then hired back at an hourly rate of probably 1.5 to 2 times your old salaried rate…sign me up! (not really…no need to add flux to our lives…if I want adventure, I’ll watch National Geographic, thank you very much)

what I think I hate more than knowing that someone is working the system and making more than I am while doing it, is that everyone in the company has to come over to see that person, and find out HOW THEY ARE DOING. In the last two hours I have heard some of the most fake-high-pitched-I-don’t-care-but-I’ll-ask-anyways voices, saying the following:
“good for you!”
“What ARE you doing?”
“that does my heart wonders” (this might be my favorite!)
“fabulous”
“fantastic”
“that’s awesome”
“I’m so proud” (a close second — like they had anything to do with what this person is doing!)

I’ve heard this life story 5 times today. New career choice for me: biographer. Now, only if they would do something that would make people want to buy the book.
