one hundred things

so…here goes…

  1. I was born in Smithtown, NY
  2. I lived in Aurora, CO for 9 years
  3. I played soccer in 7th grade — I quit after 2 weeks
  4. I played soccer in 9th grade — I did not quit
  5. I was benched for the entire season after I got into a fight at the end of the first game
  6. I went to Northeastern University for 5 months — I wasn’t ready for college
  7. I took a “leave of absence” — it lasted 6 years
  8. While I was at NU, I joined a fraternity: Phi Kappa Tau.
  9. In high school, I hated “frat boys”
  10. 5 weeks into pledging, I wanted to quit — I didn’t
  11. we lost our charter — we were losing our house, and we threw a party, billed as “Bring Down the House…last one out, turn off the lights”
  12. we caused $35,000 worth of damage
  13. I have a semi-addictive personality
  14. I am a great procrastinator
  15. I believe that mix probably saved my life a few times
  16. I am happily married: January 19, 2003
  17. I met my wife, Erika, in high school
  18. we worked at a Genovese drug store; it was my second day, and her first
  19. she said “smile,” and that was all it took; we were in the toothpaste aisle
  20. it took us 7 years for all of the pieces to line up
  21. I have 2 step-brothers and 2 step-sisters
  22. My father’s children I treat as my brother and sister
  23. I have only met my step-father’s children once, at my mom’s wedding.
  24. My parents were divorced by the time I was 4 years old
  25. I lived with my mom until I was 11
  26. I lived with my dad until I was 18
  27. I wasn’t a boy scout, but now wish I was
  28. I wasn’t involved in sports, but now wish I was
  29. As much as I wish i was involved in those things, I wouldn’t change my upbringing
  30. I had a gym membership from 1996-2004
  31. I didn’t say that I had been going to the gym from 1996-2004
  32. There are about 1800 things that I could’ve done with that $1800
  33. I started flying across the country by myself when I was about 4 years old
  34. I’ve been in about half of the United States
  35. I’ve been to Cancun, Mexico, Montreal, Canada, and St. Lucia
  36. We bought our first home on October 30, 2003
  37. It has made me into a handyman (”what do you mean I can’t do this in 30 minutes? Bob Vila did.”)
  38. I am currently a student at UMASS Boston
  39. My company subsidizes my classes for my Computer Science major
  40. I’m really an Earth and Geological Science major
  41. I have two tattoos
  42. I got them both when I was 18
  43. I wish I didn’t, but I would get another one
  44. One of them “says” “Jason” in Japanese.
  45. “Jason” should have 4 characters; my tattoo has 5
  46. I had my tongue pierced for 2 years
  47. I had 9 piercings in my ears
  48. I’ve been playing guitar since I was 21
  49. I got my first guitar when I was 12
  50. I wanted drums instead
  51. I played drums in my Middle School Band
  52. I’m convinced that the drum section forced the band teacher into retirement
  53. There were weeks when the band had to practice without drums because we were in trouble and not allowed to play
  54. I used to be a skateboarder
  55. I have bone chips in both elbows and my knees crack when I walk up the stairs because of skating
  56. I used to hate cats
  57. We have 3 three cats: Princess, Maxfield, and Walker
  58. The third cat was all my doing
  59. We rescued Walker off the street right before fall came
  60. He’s about 12-15 years old and has terrible gum disease and hyper thyroidism
  61. He STINKS!
  62. My first car was a 1977 Honda Civic Wagon
  63. In the year that I had the Civic the head gasket blew 6 times
  64. I could replace it in less than 2 hours
  65. my grandparents gave me their 1989 Hyundai Sonata as a graduation present in 1994
  66. I got into my first accident in that car
  67. I ran a red light and got hit in the right front fender
  68. No one got hurt
  69. The car sat at my mom’s house for two years
  70. I traded it to my then-roomate for his entertainment system
  71. I got a 20″ TV, surround sound stereo receiver, 5-disc CD changer, stereo VCR, and 4 Klipsch speakers out of the deal
  72. Growing up, I hated tomatoes, peppers, onions, and mustard
  73. I like mustard now, and don’t mind onions
  74. I’ve tried to like tomatoes but the thought of eating them make me gag
  75. I took 5 1/2 years of Spanish
  76. I don’t think I could pass the test to place out of freshman Spanish now
  77. I’ve been home brewing beer since 2002
  78. I used to hate professional sports
  79. I love baseball and football, now
  80. I can’t stand basketball or hockey
  81. I used to have a roommate that loved hockey, and he would try to get me to watch the games by telling me there was going to be a big fight
  82. I’ve worked at the same company for almost 8 years
  83. I’ve survived 4 major layoffs
  84. I am now the most senior member member of the staff as far as hire date, by at least 2 years
  85. I love to shoot down ideas at work, starting with a phrase like “that won’t work, we tried that in 1998″
  86. I hate my job
  87. I couldn’t imagine leaving on my own
  88. If I got laid off, I would take the severence and the unemployment, and try to work part-time at Home Depot, or do something with my hands.
  89. I hate how temporary web development project feel — everything is one redesign or a flip of the switch away from nonexistence.
  90. I want this to be my last job in the web development realm

  97. I don’t think I have a favorite movie of all time…I can’t think of one at least, right now…
  98. I don’t think I have a favorite book, either…maybe “To Kill a Mockingbird” or “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test”
  99. I go through fits and phases with music
  100. Some days/weeks it’s free jazz, or classical, or heavy metal. It doesn’t really matter, as long as something is playing
