tough love
one game in the books. The Sox lost. Let the “love” begin.
Boston is so tough on the Sox when they lose…it’s been one day and the “Closer-by-Committee” is already a “four-letter word”.
This morning, ESPN Page 2 had the What’s hot, what’s not for baseball. “Closer-by-Committe” is the “hot” “Clutch Bullpen”. Just a little tongue-in-cheek?
boston.com has a story: “Bullpen fails again” (I’d link, but it’s an index page that’s going to change). It starts: “In a catastrophic debut of their attempt to succeed without an established closer…” catastrophic? Ok…they blew a three-run lead, and then lost by two-runs, but catastrophic? And “fails again”? The word “again” implies a “before” — this is a new system, and it’s the first frickin’ game!!! Give it a rest!
I’m sure that some sportswriter will start in tomorrow with the “well, there’s always next year”. Tomorrow; the second day of the season.
Pedro rocked! Shea made his presence known! The first game for Kevin Millar and Tood Walker, and they showed why they’re here.
I stand by my call earlier today: Sox in ‘03!!
[edit: I just saw that Su posted about this too]
