For most of the winter, Hillenbrand was discussed as bait for Expos starter Bartolo Colon, who was on the trading block because of the need to cut payroll in Montreal. That deal fell through when the Red Sox refused to include pitcher Casey Fossum along with Hillenbrand, and Colon was traded to the Chicago White Sox instead.
ok…Colon really isn’t all that. But, sure, trade talks for Colon, ok…and you want Fossum, ok…at least we’re being somewhat reasonable.

Hillenbrand has batted .303 with 38 RBI, playing 49 of Boston’s 52 games in all. He has shared third base with Bill Mueller, who leads the Red Sox with a .382 batting average in 44 games; at first base, sharing the duties with David Ortiz and Kevin Millar, Hillenbrand has been the team’s best fielder.
Hillenbrand is a great fielder. Shit, get rid of Ortiz (I swear he eats babies for breakfast!) with a .273 average and 19 RBIs.
It’s oddly coincidental that the Red Sox are shopping Shea out to a National league team, for a pitcher, who on among pitchers can hit. Damn interleague crapass play!
