flame-proof shield

okay…this is not an endorsement of anyone’s lifestyle, or the government’s actions…I need a place to speak my mind, as the place I found this is full of little whiney babies that freak out at the first sight of a rational arguement that differs from their own, and the convo goes down hill from there, until they’re attacking family members…and no, I didn’t find it on someone’s blog — it was a message board on a Phish fan site (they can be more vicious than bloggers!)

so..brief history: U.S. Gov’t passes a law, allowing them to go after the promoters of “raves” for the drug use that goes on there. The “RAVE Act” targets any event that drugs trafficking or drug use is known to happen at, as a primary function. Ok. So, a questionable violation of the rights of the promoters…and a questionable task of being held responsible for the actions of a large number of people. But, the primary reason for this, when you peel back the propaganda on each side, is that there are certain events, like raves, that draw large numbers of people with a majority of them doing illegal drugs.

I’m not making a case against drugs here. I am making a case for the fact that drugs are illegal, regardless of your desire to partake, or if you really, really, really, really wish they weren’t. Some countries have better policies; some people are smart enough to keep it in their own homes. My case is against people who need to partake in public, and then complain when their “rights” are infringed upon. At least know that you shouldn’t be doing it in public…

The press release below is about a NORML event that was shut down due to the possiblity of being fined for attendees pot usage.

If you have made it this far, and make it through the press release, I’d like to know your feelings on this: Is it better to stop the event, or attempt to arrest the offenders and create a potentially violent situation? Are people too selfish to understand that their good time is not the most important thing?

Every year, on the Boston Common, there is a hemp rally. It’s a terrific excuse for 50,000 college kids to get baked in public — there’s never any way to get enough cops there, and the ones that are there just act as crowd and flow control. What would happen if they just fenced off the entire commons, and placed everyone under arrest? It would be chaos!

I don’t support the Government’s actions here, especially the tactic of coupling the RAVE Act with the Amber Alert Act, knowing that it would pass that way. I’m not anti drug. I’m just anti-people, and for common sense.

Thanks.

I was actually slated to give a speech at this event, and wasn’t able too. When the National ACLU took this up, the DEA pretty much plead “no contest” because they knew they were in the wrong, by stopping a legitamate fundraising campaign. They weren’t afraid somebody was going to use drugs… they were afraid that MT-NORML would raise enough money to actually start a ballot drive for medical marijuana. The good news is that Adam has hung in there and it’s looking like the event will be as follows:
4-20 Screening of Busted: A Citizens Guide To Surviving Police Encounters in Petro Theater featuring Chris Copenhaver attorney-at-law.
4-21 or 22 Unconfirmed debate between DEA rep. and South Dakota hempster Bob Newland.
4-23 NORML Baked Sale in SUB Atrium
4-24 NORML Benefit concert featuring End Ever, 37 Clark, Loopian Zu, Smash Division, and others. Unconfirmed benefit party afterwards to meet the bands at either Casey’s, Tiny’s, or Sunset Bowl.
4-25 or 26 Meeting for all interested individuals on how to form an effective chapter featuring Bozeman NORML’s Jamie Weleber

I don’t know how many from Billings read this, but I’m sure anyone who wants to come for this event would be greatly appreciated. No injustice ever changes without people standing up to oppose it!
