7 adults + 8 teens + trees + bugs + ropes course = fun

so…I’m back. You didn’t know I was gone.

I spent the weekend with Erika and 7 of her young women at a ropes course in NH. I had a great time!

The ropes course was run by Outdoor Explorations and hosted by the Browne Center. I had never been through a full ropes course — I had done a few elements in 8th grade, but no high ropes.

I have this little problem with ladders. Not really heights, just getting there. Well, most of the high elements had a 12 foot ladder going halfway up the element followed by these “staples” — these 1-inch diameter steel “U”s driven into the trees — that you need to negotiate to actually get on the element. For some reason, I forget about the fact that I’m tethered and on belay while Ii’m climbing up the staples. I managed to do the burma bridge, but decided that I had conquered enough demons for the day and spent the rest of the time belaying for the girls — I was the heaviest person there, and a few of the times the I was being lowered down I noticed that I was lifting the girls off the ground!

Erika works with awesome teens! These girls are extremely smart, and I am glad that I got the opportunity to go and see what Erika sees in them.

Read Erika’s version — much better, with pictures — and Daneris’ version
