time flies…

so, the weekend is over, but the great american house hunt is officially under way!

although Erika and I have been doing the open house thing for the last four months, we’re now working with a buyer broker. We can now get into all of those houses that seemed to only exist online and in the pages of the real estate section. So far, it’s been a good, if not stressful, experience…
Maiden Voyage“;?>

We looked at 3 houses on Saturday. We were taken by the first one: great condition, good design and decor, nice sized rooms, a smaller yard than we wanted, but it would be ours, and a wraparound porch. It tainted our view of our houses. We wanted to put an offer on it. We were scared that someone was going to snatch it our from under us while we slept.

and then we woke up.

Fun what a good night’s sleep will do. We both woke up thinking clearly, clearly thinking that we didn’t want to put an offer on the house. The house was very livable, but all we did when we talked about it was talk about the things we wanted to do to the house. We were adding bathrooms and closets and redoing the kitchen. I think it’s too early in our hunt to be doing that.

And then we drove around the neighbor again, and as much as it was quiet, and seemed like a more family neighborhood, there were houses that seemed out of place, and there were a lot of two and three family houses. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s not what weither of use were envisioning. At least, not this early in the hunt.

We went to 3 open houses yesterday, just ’cause. One place looked nice from the outside, but the inside screamed crack den. What’s up with saying a house has 4 bedrooms, but none of them have closets?! Just because someone sleeps there doesn’t mean that it’s a bedroom. And if you’re going to pull down the wallpaper, pull it all down. I’ve also determined that I’m pretty tall. In at least 4 or 5 of the 7 houses from this weekend, I had to duck to either get into rooms, or duck to stand in the room, or really duck to get down the stairs.

So…Saturday will be a new day…it’s almost worth house hunting to just be able to get inside people’s houses, and question how they live there, let alone expect you to buy it…

Well, I’m sure all of Erika’s usual fans are dying to know whether you guys made an offer. Guess I found you out! Sounds like sleeping on it was a good thing, then. I can’t imagine what a tough decision that was, houses are huge investments and you could go nuts trying to figure out if you’re making the right choice. You guys will find the one that’s right for you!

I found out, thru my roommates’ search for a house, that I really get a kick out of sitting on other peoples’ couches. I also like playing a little game called “Who are all these weirdos in the pictures?” and making up my own names for them.

This just goes to show why I’m *not* mature enough to own a house yet. :)

We/I had the same problem. Every house we looked at we were saying stuff like ‘If you do this and this the house would rock.’ Eventually our buyers agent told us that he thought our best route would be to have one built, so we did.

Speaking of which, some point in the future you two need to come over for dinner.
