They didn't give us the closing cost figures until we were in the room with the lawyer. They also wouldn't give us our monthly mortgage payment $$ until we were there either. Yay, stress!

Let me tell you, asking the bank for a bank check in the order of $5k is something I never want to have to do again!!!

so...did you have to then leave and come back? I don't understand how you could be expected to get the bank check without the final figure

Wooo! Yay for you and Erica! I think I'd be happy if I didn't have final closing numbers until late -- our realtor and the bank keep giving us ever-changing and ever-conflicting numbers. It's ludicrous.

Jay - they told us the night before (about 8pm or so) what the bank check should be - but wouldn't give us an itemized list of where that number came from until we got there to sign papers. We went out and got the bank check in the morning, and then they called us again about 2 hours before the meeting and said "Oh, add $12 to what we said last night" - talk about getting nickel'ed and dime'd! (We gave that to them in cash, since it was too late).

Chris had asked them *repeatedly* for the final mortgage payment number too, they kept saying "we don't have it in front of us right now" - even when we walked in, it was the first thing we asked and the lawyer had our file IN HIS ARMS and couldn't be bothered to tell us. We had to wait until that particular page came up in the stack of pages we had to sign (six times, initial here, every page blah blah blah).

It's really dumb!
