I had my bubble popped!
so…last weekend I played the worst 20 hands of poker. No matter what I got, I couldn’t make it work.
Tonight, it seemed like things were turning around…the key work being seemed…
I was playing in a $5 Hold ‘Em single table tournament, and I was playing pretty tight. I made a couple of bad plays, but I managed to take out two players and triple my stack. And then it happened.
I get dealt a QsAh in the big blind. The play wasn’t raised, so I checked. The flop brought a 8s2d6s so I called the 300 bet (mistake #1: should have raised) with my flush draw. The turn brings me Ac, I bet 600, which is called. The river brings the 8h, and my two pairs aces and eights. I get check-raised, but I thought that he was trying to bluff me out of my investment, so I called.
I would have never thought about the possibility of a set of eights busting up my two pair, but it did, and I lost 90% of my chips! I was in the small blind in the next hand and made my second big mistake of calling the big blind, having to go all-in on a JTo. Oh, and that’s how you lose, in 4th place in a tourney that pays out for the top 3 spots.

That’s a tough beat. Obviously, this guy really liked his pair of 8’s if he’s calling a 600 raise on 4th street after an Ace came up. I’d be pissed he didn’t fold there.
That’s what I don’t like about playing online. Even though there’s real money involved, people like to chase hands they shouldn’t (and normally wouldn’t) on the ‘net. Wind up with a lot of bad burns on the river.
Where do you play, anyway?

I agree, but when you don’t have money to spend in a real card room, or the means to get to the card room, it’s the risk…
I play on party poker. do you play somewhere?
I’m thinking about just using that for play money poker for a while, maybe entering a low-end tourney now and again to get the feel of multiple tables.
I’d like to start up a semi-regular home game…

I play every once in a while on truepoker.com. You’ve got to download their program, but it’s pretty fun. Hold’Em and Omaha, play or real money. And lots of tournaments for both. I enter the play-money tournaments sometimes when I’m just bored. I’ve played on pokerroom.com a little bit too, which is okay. Just curious if you had something better. I’ll have to try partypoker.
I love playing at Foxwoods at the super-low-limit tables. Like 2/4 holdem. Everyone plays so tight and the pot is maybe $30. You’d think we were at the World Series. Funny stuff.
