“how I spent my spring break” or “the eastern seaboard in 9 days”

so…our spring break is almost over. We’re still in NJ…heading home tomorrow morning.

Erika has posted about the trip already, but here’s my recap:

We left MA at 5AM on 3/19. 14 hours later, we arrived in NC. The trip wasn’t bad…drove straight through.

We spent Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues in NC. My dad just bought some property, so we checked that out, and I realized that my brother and sister are no longer kids: they’re teenagers!!! Please let me forget my teen years, if only to not know what they might be up to!

It was my grandfather’s birthday on Monday, so was went out to dinner. He used to be a photographer — he still is, but not to the extent as before — and he gave us a bunch of his award-winning photos (pictures to come next week).

Wednesday saw us ringing in St. Patrick’s Day driving to Falls Church, VA. The weather started getting crappy just as we checked into the hotel, but it didn’t stop us from driving into DC. We walked around in the wind and sleet — I had to restaint Erika from cursing Bush on the lawn of the White House (it’s not that I didn’t want to the same, but come on, you know that the lawn is mic’d, and the secret service was just waiting…). We did a whirlwind tour of the Washington Monument, the monument for the signers of the Declaration of Independence (I really liked this one), the Vietnam Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial. I dug DC, but I don’t need to go back any time soon.

Thursday: On the way to Philadelphia to have dinner with Ericalynn, Mac, and Statia, we made a quick stop in Baltimore. I really like that city! Well, at least the Inner Harbor area. And it’s now my mission to make it back there for the last weekend in September to see the Red Sox play at Camden Yards — what a great ball park!

We had dinner at Monk’s in Philly, which reminds me of Bukowski’s in Boston — who cares about the food menu when there is a beer menu twice as think!! Good food, great beer, and the best dining companions!!! Ericalynn was trying to get us to spend the night — we were driving to NJ right after dinner — so, she kept trying to convince us that it was snowing. Sorry…we really did want to stay…we know you understand!

We’ve been in NJ since Thursday night. We’ve having a great time. Went to Atalantic City today, and got to play some poker at the Taj Mahal.

It’s been a long time since I’ve typed, and I dont know if this is making sense at all….it’s bedtime…we need to finish the last leg of the trip — 6 hours of driving — in the morning.
