Monday Morning Quarter-in-the-Jukebox

I might have a touch of a vacation hangover, but this should see me through…

Jimi Hendrix - ‘Bold as Love’ (”my yellow in this case is not so mellow…”)
Jimi Hendrix - ‘Wait Until Tomorrow’ (”click, bang, what a hang. Your daddy just shot poor me”)

Phish - ‘Halley’s Comet’
Phish - ‘NICU’

These two songs are from the 12.14.95 show, and are really like this “Halley’s Comet->NICU”. The jam in between the two songs is great, and it shows up during NICU and again towards the end. You can also hear Mike Gordon singing his tribute to the Merry Prankster’s bus driver Neal Cassidy: “no left turn unstoned” — or maybe he’s singing to Matt. Maybe Matt is Neal reincarnated?

The Grateful Dead - ‘Cassidy’

The same Cassidy as above…

Ringo Starr and Billy Preston - ‘Will It Go Round In Circles’

This one is for Erika. She sent me this IM earlier:
snazzykat: someone did a search on snazzykat for “‘will it go around in circles”
snazzykat: will what?
snazzykat: a cat?
snazzykat: a hat?
snazzykat: a fish?
snazzykat: a baby with one foot nailed to the floor?

Cool. I was going to post “Wait Until Tomorrow” on my radio blog today but went with another Hendrix song from Axis: Bold As Love, “Little Wing” instead. I was inspired by the George Harrison dedication at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony.

i don’t know if it’s just a coincidence or not but “no left turn unstoned” was written by phil lesh for the grateful dead in ‘67 or ‘68. it was named after a sign in front of ken kesey’s house in la honda. now that’s not where i got the name, but i did get it from the name of a song.
