no good deed goes unpunished
so…I think the end is near for Walker. No, he’s not dying…well, not any faster than nature wants him to — but we’ll see is he makes it through the day.
I’m conflicted.
I was never a cat person, and now I can safely say that I am. I love having Walker around when he’s affectionate — I don’t even mind the smell.
I hate Walker whenever he’s in his marking-my-territory mood. And, unfortunately, that is quite often lately.
We’ve called the no-kill shelters; they’re not taking any new surrenders. We’ve taken him to the vet; a couple hundred dollars later: “well, he’s old. It’s tough. Deal with it.” No matter the place, no one wants to show the slightest bit of sympathy…it’s as if they feel if they show sympathy, they too will be stuck with Walker.
I don’t get it! We rescued a cat. We took him in to our home, which has two other cats in it, and fed him and medicated him. It’s not a good fit. There are fights between every possible combination of cats. There is much spraying!!!! Spraying! Cat piss, forcefully sprayed all over our stuff!! We’re good people…what did we do?
We took in the cat, and now he’s our responsiblity? We’re not the type of people to just reabandon him, so we’re screwed! If we adopted him, the shelter’s would have let us bring him back if things didn’t work out. But, nooooo, not when you’re doing a good deed.
No-kill shelters: I understand that my story sounds just like everyone else’s out there, and those people are probably just giving you a line of bull.
Assholes dishing the line of bull: fuck you!
So, here we are…I’m frustrated. I want to keep Walker, but not in our house. I know that he would have a tougher time on the streets in our neighborhood, with all of the other stray cats, and honestly, if he’s in the neighborhood that increases the likelihood of him ending up on your back porch…and if he were to get injuried, and I saw that, I would be a wreck.
Does anyone know anyone who wants Walker? I know I didn’t paint a rosy picture, but let’s face it: life ain’t always rosy…sometimes it’s covered in cat piss.
Does anyone know anyone who has a barn in the MA/NH/VT border area? Let’s make Walker a barn cat!
Really…anyone? Anywhere. I’ll drive. I’ll give you money. I’ll give you food. Shit, I’ll even come back to scoop his litter!
This fucking sucks!
