it’s girthy!

Friday, June 18th, 2004

so…I’ve seen some people talking about this but for some reason it’s not generating the buzz I would expect: Ball Park’s All-American Hot Dogs.
The new commercial for these hot dogs has a guy standing at the grill, and all he really has to say is “they’re girthy!”, “I love girthy!”, or “it’s girthy!”
When did we […]

warped sense of safety

Friday, June 18th, 2004

I saw this in the paper today:
“Chicago’s Frank Thomas reached base safely in his 24th consecutive game
when he was hit by a pitch in the eighth”
“reached base safely” and “hit by a pitch” should not be in the same sentence

so…tonight is the opener for the last Phish tour. There is a satellite simulcast at a bunch of movie theaters, so I’m heading out in a bit to see it.
It’s time to play the “what are we going to hear” game (number next to song is the number of shows since it was last played […]

I found this over at Mac’s.
Now, I love a good conspiracy, and I can get just a paranoid as the rest of you (I think I’m more paranoid…no, really…did you hear that?), however Lenore Skenazy’s piece just rubs me the wrong way.
And what if instead of a robber, it’s a private detective checking to […]

stupid marketing words #45232

Wednesday, June 16th, 2004

I looked up at the tv last night during some commercial for a face cream or and hand cream and one of their big claims was like “now with naturally activated soy!”
Is soy normally a lazy item? Have we been buying artificially activated soy up until this point? Is there a little soy fluffer in […]

Has anyone else noticed that their various IMing programs no longer flash in the taskbar when there is an incoming message? I now get 2 flashes followed by a constant highlight.
Did someone figure that it was too taxing for computer to have unread messages just flashing?
I find the change annoying…it’s the only time I think […]

probably not the best way to run a company

Thursday, June 10th, 2004

You’ve probably seen this: 100 people; I’ve had at least two textbooks that had it on the inside cover.
If we could shrink the earth’s population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following:
THERE WOULD BE——

57 Asians

21 Europeans

14 from the Western […]
