did I pay extra for this convenience?

so…this week was my biennial clothes shopping extravaganza. I went nuts. Crazy, I tell you. Two pairs of jeans, a pair of Columbia pants, and a Life is Good t-shirt that says “Half Full” (because, as you know, I am ever the optimist). Everything except the t-shirt was marked down 50-70% off (I’m starting to see a bargain shopping theme here).

Does anyone actually use the 5th pocket on a pair of jeans or pants? What can you fit in there? maybe two quarters, but good luck trying to get them out while still wearing the pants. If you try to put anything larger than that into it it’s not like you’re going to be able to sit down without emptying the pocket.

My new Columbia pants have the pocket deep down inside the right-hand front pocket. It’s like they put a little pocket dividing wall, and now I’m constantly misplacing half of my stuff in there.

I’m just wondering if there is a big market for the 5th pocket or if this is one of those little things that we’ve just excepted as a unnecessary necessity — I mean I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pair of jeans without it.

Anything I put in that little pocket for “safe keeping,” I usually end up forgetting about and it is, inevitably, washed and ruined.

the 5th pocket is good for one little valium.

and i recently said to my husband, “that container is a quarter full” and he said, “you’re a jackass, you know that, right?” and i said, “yeah. so?”

it’s all how you look at it and i have a dozen of those ‘life is good’ shirts because they bug the snot out of negative people!
