has this become a dad blog?

well..I think I would be required to post more often for this really to be considered anything but a deserted excuse for a blog, but since all of the blogs that I have been making lately seem to be about being a dad, it’s a dad blog — I mean I am a dad. When I was a sarcastic, jaded lucky-to-be-employed web developer, it was a sarcastic, jaded, lucky-to-be-employed blog.

Speaking of “lucky-to-be-employed” — the time has come when I need to find a job. I’ve been happily laid off for almost 4 months now, and man has it been great! I wouldn’t trade the time I’ve had with Erika and Sammy for anything in the world. And that’s the problem: I’ve got a major vacation hangout. If it takes a few days to recover from a week-long vacation, imagine a 4-month-long trip mixed with an extra helping of parenthood.

I’ve had it lucky. Most parents — or at least that’s what it seems — return to work shortly after the baby is born. Someone might decide to stay at home, or it daycare is an option go that route. Well, daycare is not an option for us right now, and if there was anyone that wants to stay home more than anything, it’s me!

There are a few things in the works right now. I’ve actually gone on a few interviews, which is really strange considering that I have never really interviewed for a job in my 10-year career! At least nothing formal, in a suit kind-of-way. I’ve also tossed the idea of starting my own consulting company, but right now, let’s be honest, I’m lucky if I can shower each day let alone manage clients and deadlines.

So…we’ll see what happened in the next few weeks. I’m not sure that I’m ready to leave and go back to the daily grind, but I know that the longer I stay home the harder it will be to go back.
