Monday Morning Quarter-in-the-Jukebox: singing the toasted hard drive blues

so…I bought a new laptop about a week and a half ago. I was pretty excited — it has been forever since I’ve had my own machine that wasn’t under the watchful eye of work, or that I wasn’t sharing with Erika. Well, 5 days after I bought it, the hard drive failed. It failed hard. It failed like a fat kid in gym class. It failed like Courtney Love and sobriety. “Operating system not found” is never the phrase you want read as you start your day.

5 days? What could I possibly have lost in 5 days? 34GB of mp3s from various sources. 34GBs mp3s that I hadn’t yet burned to DVD. 18GBs of those mp3s were from Marc’s ipod, which promptly crashed the minute he left my house.

Oh well…it’s only music right? *shiver* I managed to backup 49 of the top 100 albums from the 1970s, according to Pitchfork, so that’s what I’m working with today.

Elvis Costello - (The Angels Wanna Wear) My Red Shoes

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Led Zeppelin - Out On The Tiles

Nick Drake - Road
The Ramones - Havana Affair

The Rolling Stones - Loving Cup

I can send you some Vanilla Ice mp3s if it would make you feel better.

Your household sounds like a perfect candidate for FreeNAS. And, seriously, I’ve got a sweet 9:20 live version of Ice Ice Baby so just say the word.

Hey, thanks for the maggot brain. Love that tune.
