two for tuesday
so…it’s Tuesday. You probably knew that, but with me having Mondays off I need to remind myself at least half a dozen times throughout the day.
Two tales from the office:
One
Why do people think that if they send an email with “please disregard this” in the body nobody will read it? I guess one of the divisions in the department got hit with a virus yesterday and they’re just getting their email access back, so every 2-3 minutes someone feels compelled to send a test message to “All.”
I don’t like being part of “All.”
You’d think that we — the global, office “we”, not a group with “me” in it — could get it together and come up with a buddy system, or an email chain to test out a new or recently restored address.
I’m a consultant now…maybe I’ll suggest it.
Two
This morning I overheard two “engineers” talking about state budget cut rumors.
“I heard that they’re going to ask us to keep the lights turned off.”
“Yeah, I heard that at the other place they actually had a higher heating bill because they were ’saving money’ on lighting.”
“I heard a rumor that during the winter they came it and there was frost on the desks.”
Frost. On. The. Desks.
Because the FLUORESCENT lights were turned off.
Hence the air-quotes around “engineers.”

I wonder if it has anything to do with that crazy guy that works there that doesn’t like the lights turned on in the morning?

sure…it’s possible that he’s replaced our normal fluorescent light blubs with ultra-inefficient, heat radiating incandescents-posing-as-fluorescents in a bid to cripple the state’s economy
