it’s a jeep thing, and I still don’t understand

so…SQUEEKKEEEKKEEERRRREEEEEK

that is the sound that my Jeep makes.

SQUEEEEEEKKEERRRRRREEBBBBBEEeeeee

At first, it was happening on occasion when I had the AC on and I made a hard turn. Never at any other time. The general consensus was that the belt was a little worn and the combined pull of the AC compressor and the power steering pump at the same time was making the belt slip a bit. That was ok by me because I rarely was using the AC.

Well…SQUEEEEKKKEKEEKKKEKEEEEOOHHHHHHH

The defroster uses the AC compressor.

SQUEEEeeeeeeee

Then, my Jeep started a constant squeek: squee..squee..squee…squee.

I decided it was time to replace the serpentine belt.

My father-in-law also has a Jeep Cherokee and told me he was having the same problem, and that the problem was the clutch on the AC compressor and not the belt. I still wanted to replace the belt — it would a cheap test: if the noise stopped, great, and if not, time to take it in, but I wouldn’t have to really spend anything to find out.

[I need to write a post, complete with pictures, on the process of replacing the serpentine belt on a 4.0L Jeep Cherokee. It’s not difficult, but there seems to very few resources on the subject…once you know, it’s 30 minute job, but if you don’t, it could take 90 minutes to figure it out. Knowing IS half the battle]

The drive down to the Reilly’s was nice and quiet.

Ahhhhh….

And the drive home the Reilly’s was nice and quiSQUEEEKEEKEEKERRERERKKEKKBEBBEBBPPPPFUCKEEEEEEEEKKKEEE!
