the one where I talk about never fulfilling your potential
so…there is always a lot of talk about fulfilling one’s potential. Well, there are times when you don’t want to encourage that:
this morning Sammy grabbed a coffee mug off of the coffee table and threw it on the floor.
he’s gotten to be extremely fast! And knowing this, I have to do things differently, like using one eye for the primary task (watching him) and one eye to do anything else.
I didn’t want to put him in the play yard at Sammy State Penitentiary, so I put him down in front of the Wicker Basket of Wonderfully Wicked Toys while I put on a few songs of the season (just an aside: a transition from Bing Crosby to Sufjan Stevens is very jarring at 7:45am). I needed to plug my Nomad in, and eventhough I’ve become an expert in the one-eyed plug-in field, today I had to take a quick peek.
3 Seconds.
Maybe 4.
“Hey dad! Look at me!”
*tchink*
“What else can I grab!?”
The coffee mug was empty. Only 15 minutes before it had been full, though. It was a big lapse of judgment on my part, that luckily only resulted in me having to clean a little cold coffee off the carpet.
