sure beats walking in my new shoes
so…Erika is picking me up in the city today, so it didn’t make sense to drive to the train station, to only have the Jeep sit there overnight; I took a cab to the station.
I called the cab company at 7:30 last night to request a cab for 5AM. Now, when we lived closer to the city — 25 miles closer — a request for a taxi at 5 might have shown at 5, or at 5:15, or at 5:21. My train leaves the station at 5:30, so I wasn’t going to chance anything, even if it was only going to be a 5 minute ride.
The taxi was parked outside my house at 4:40AM.
When I got in the cab, the driver asked if I knew that the train didn’t leave until 5, and when I said yes, and that I didn’t know when he was actually going to show up, he was offended and yelled at me, in that “in this town you get what you want, city boy!” way.
so…for $5 I got a trip to the train station, the weather report, a diatribe on “those wackos that drive to work everyday” fit for talk radio (I believe his actually assessment was that he would shoot himself in the head if he had to make the drive into Boston for work everyday — yes, I think the irony was lost on him), and the added bonus of smelling like an ashtray for the last 45 minutes.
not a bad start to the day, huh?

What time do you have to be at work that you must leave so early??? Wow… I guess I should stop my complaining.
