civil doody

so…I’m sitting in a room with 125-plus people. The way the tables are set up I would think that we were getting ready to play bingo, but the “JURY POOL” stencil on the back of each chair is informing me otherwise.

I, unfortunately, didn’t have the time to radically change my appearance — add a few piercings in my face, give myself a purple mohawk, wear my underwear outside my pants — to help get myself out of here early. Instead, I dressed as normal as possible, hoping that they won’t even notice that I’m here.

They mail you a survey that you need to fill out before you get here. I’d say that about 50% of the people that have walked in so far have not filled it out, and maybe 25% of those people actually left theirs at home. I’m scared at the judicial system, should I ever end up on the wrong side of the law, that the jury may not actually be able to follow the most basic of directions.

I have a feeling it is going to be a loooooong day.
